December is in full swing and there is only one thing on the minds of people across the UK – Christmas.

The shopping madness has already begun in earnest with some stores seeing people almost resorting to rioting trying to get a bargain on Black Friday. City centre high streets are packed with people rushing to get the must-have present for their loved one's and, at times, it can all seem a bit too much.

So why not take a break with something relaxing? This Christmas there a number of special model railway events happening across the country, which can provide a break from the madness of the festive season. For all steam and model railway enthusiasts alike there will be something going as everyone counts down to the big day.

When it comes steam trains, there is no better time of the year than winter to enjoy these majestic pieces of engineering. Weaving through the snowy landscapes of the beautiful British countryside and smelling the steam bellowing out of the locomotive's funnel, there are not many things that can top that.
