Father's Day is only a matter of days away and it provides the opportunity to show how much your dad means to you.

While some will send the obligatory card or take them out for a nice dinner on the big day (June 15th), Gainsborough Model Railway is offering a much different day out. The group is celebrating a Father's Day weekend by welcoming visitors at the club's rooms on Florence Terrace, Gainsborough on both Saturday and Sunday.

If your dad is a train buff then this could be the perfect present. Gainsborough Model Railway is filled with over 60 years' of craftsmanship by dedicated members which has helped to create a truly impressive layout. Many attendees are often taken aback by the sheer size of the model railway as it requires at least ten people to operate the intricate layout at all times.

The Gainsborough Standard reports that the coming weekend will feature a number of demonstrations and other activities throughout the day. The club is anticipating an influx of visitors and is perfectly positioned on the London King's Cross to Leeds main line making it easily accessible for railway enthusiasts.

Speaking to the news provider, society chairman Chris Wragg said: "Even those whose memories don’t go that far back may find reminders of their youth in the diesel locos on our railway, as well as steam locos they have seen on preserved railways or in museums.

Railway modelling is a great inter-generational hobby and joining the society has allowed me to learn useful skills like woodworking and electrics and even bricklaying and plumbing, as well as the skills to build model engines and rolling stock”.

So if you're looking for something to treat your dad with then look no further than this celebration of steam.

Admission is £4 for adults, £3 for children and senior citizens while family tickets are available for £10.
