The summer may be over for another year and the schools are back open again but this does not mean that the model railway season has finished.
While families up and down the UK have been delighted by the vast array of Thomas the Tank Engine weekends and other such events over the summer, the autumn and winter is sure to provide some more delights. Numerous sites will be holding exhibitions and shows celebrating everything great about owning a model railway.
They are ideal for both the young and old as they can marvel at the various special layouts that have been put on by organisers. Here are a selection of events that are taking place in the latter part of 2013 and early 2014.
Worthing MRC Annual Exhibition – September 28th and 29th 2013
The Worthing Model Railway Club's annual exhibition returns for another year at Durrington High School in Worthing, West Sussex. The event builds on the success of the past four years where people from all over the region have come to marvel at the range of impressive layouts created by club members.
Among the elaborate scenery will be scale versions of Abbotts Hill, a 1950s to 1960s coastal layout while Gilly's Alps and Glyn Valley Tramway which provide an Alpine and North Wales quarry setting respectively.
Light refreshments will be on offer throughout the days which kick off at 10:00 BST each day, lasting to 17:00 BST on Saturday and 16:00 BST on Sunday.
Tickets are priced at £4 adults and £2 for children, while family tickets are available at £11.
Warley National Model Railway Exhibition – November 23rd and 24th 2013
The Warley National Model Railway Exhibition celebrates its 21st anniversary at the NEC, Birmingham, this year and will be holding an extra show to mark the occasion. Visitors will be wowed by the 85 working model railway layouts in a variety of popular scale gauge combinations.
It is an international affair with nine layouts coming from outside the British Isles. The likes of Ireland, Germany, Belgium and Holland will all be represented at this year's event to give the show a foreign flavour. This is just a snippet of what is on offer at this exciting exhibition.
Advance tickets start at £11.50 per adult while on the door prices start at £13.
Nottingham Model Railway Exhibition – March 15th and 16th 2014
Looking further ahead to March, Nottingham & East Midland Model Railway Society is holding its annual exhibition. No official venue has been confirmed as of yet but the events are one that many enthusiasts look forward to every year.
Not only is it one of the most popular but it is one of the biggest too, with last year's event being held over 19,000 sq ft.

The London Festival of Railway Modelling – March 22nd and 23rd 2014
The London Festival of Railway Modelling is one of the biggest dates on the calendar and brings together all the very best in the world of miniature railways. Presented by the published of British Railway Modelling Magazine, it features 40 hand-picked British, European and Continental layouts from throughout history.
Hosted in The Great Hall via The Palm Court of Alexandra Palace it is sure to be another triumph with enthusiasts coming from all over the country to peruse the displays on offer.
Ticket prices start at £10 for adults and £4.50 for children.
